The media affects our notions of individuality and our ideas of sex roles. The Encyclopedia of Gender in Media critically examines the use of social media in empowering, facilitating, or hard the social construction of sex in our society. The work addresses many different news and entertainment articles in print and digital media and investigates the social construction of masculinity in addition to femininity.
Besides representations of sex within the press, we examine gender issues associated with the media function as well as media ownership. Despite plenty of books, anthologies, and university press monographs on the subject of sex in media, until now no detailed reference work has handled this subject of continuing interest in student study and newspapers.
